Staff Head Coach Mike Mularkey Pro Career: Enters his first season with the Bills after being named as the thirteenth coach in franchise history on January 14, 2004. Mularkey comes to Buffalo with 10 years experience as an NFL assistant coach and another nine as an NFL player. He spent the last three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers (2001-03), who ranked among the NFL’s top five overall offenses in two of those three years. In 2001, Mularkey’s first as coordinator, Pittsburgh had the league’s number one-ranked rushing attack and the third-ranked overall offense. That year, the Steelers posted a 13-3 regular season record, won the AFC Central title, and advanced to the AFC Championship Game. The next year, Pittsburgh had the league’s fifth-ranked overall offense and again won the division crown as well as a first-round playoff game before falling 34-31 in overtime to Tennessee in a Divisional Playoff game. Mularkey was named Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator on January 5, 2001 after five seasons as Pittsburgh’s tight ends coach. He broke into coaching at Concordia College in 1993 before spending the next two seasons as an assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was selected in the ninth round of the 1983 draft by San Francisco and went on to spend nine seasons as an NFL tight end with the Minnesota Vikings (1983-88) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1989-91). His career statistics include 102 catches for 1,222 yards and 9 touchdowns. Career record: 0-0. Background: Played collegiately at Florida and finished his Gator career with 55 catches for 628 yards and 3 touchdowns. He later earned a dual degree in kinesiology and sociology from Minnesota.
